The Trash Company Disposal/Recycle Guide

Residential/Home Recycling Guide

We care about a cleaner environment. To help our customers continue to recycle as much as possible, we’ve developed a comprehensive overview on what you can recycle and how recycling works.

RECYCLING DROP OFF

The Trash Company is committed to environmentally sound business practices and offers single stream recycling services at the Granby Transfer Station for Grand County. Single stream recycling means no sorting is required for glass, plastic, paper, aluminum and tin. Recycling is offered at the Granby Transfer Station.

Recycling not only lessens the impact on landfills, but reduces dependence on raw materials saving money and protecting the environment. And recycling makes a difference. Paper accounts for about a quarter of the material filling the nation’s landfills. The good news is more than 50 percent of paper used is recycled saving trees, energy and our rapidly-filling landfills. Many types of plastics are also highly recyclable. Plastics make up more than 10 percent of the country’s waste stream so recycling this valuable resource is more important than ever.

The Granby Transfer Station operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to noon.

Call The Trash Company professionals for more information about recycling services.

What is Recycling & Why You Should Recycle

Recycling is when certain materials are collected, processed and made reusable. While not all materials can be recycled, most can. Trash & waste generate toxic chemicals and greenhouse gasses from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps the environment by reducing the overall amount of pollution caused by waste, landfills, etc.

How Does Recycling Work

Recycling first depends on people making the choice to do so. When recycling, it’s extremely important to clean every item so it’s spotless. This prevents other materials from becoming contaminated while being transported to recycling facilities. When blue and green recycle bins are full, they are then collected by The Trash Company at a depot.

Once materials are delivered to a recycling facility, or material recovery facility (MRF), they are sorted and organized by material types. Sorted materials are then inspected for final quality control clean-up before being baled (compressed) together and staged for sale to end markets.

What happens to my recycling?

When recyclable materials are organized, they are shipped off to different markets for processing into new raw materials.

Many of the most common items/materials - plastic bottles and papers - are recycled back to their original state/product. This effectively eliminates the ‘life cycle’ of these products, as they can continue to be recycled and reused. Other more complex materials that are recycled are used in creating totally new products, ranging from furniture to clothes.
